Story
This project was a hands-on exploration of how rhythm can be shaped through form, material, and cultural storytelling. Inspired by the maracas’ Latin American roots and its role in music and movement, I designed a percussion instrument using only reused materials — focusing on how its shape, balance, and tactile qualities influence both sound and interaction.
The final outcome is a unique maracas that responds to its theme through both visual language and acoustic expression. The process, including inspiration, experiments, and the final result, was captured in a 1-minute film combining sound design and storytelling.
Type: Art & Design Exploration
Year: 2023
Project Duration: 1 weeks
Category: Sound design, upcycling, physical prototyping
Role: Concept development, material experimentation, model-making, film production
Note: Some video clips are sourced from Ziggy Marley's live session with Guitar Center. View the original performance here.
Brief
A reinterpretation of the traditional maracas, exploring sound, form, and artistic expression through reused materials. The project was documented and presented in a short film.
