Story
Wano is the result of a student concept project developed in collaboration with Swedish lighting manufacturer Fagerhult. The goal was to explore how modern technology could improve safety in public spaces — particularly in parks and urban environments — while also respecting personal privacy.
A key part of the project was identifying and evaluating emerging technologies such as LiDAR, AI, and 5G, and imagining how these could be integrated into lighting to enhance safety, communication, and sustainability. Wano envisions a system that predicts movement patterns, detects potential risks, and discreetly alerts relevant authorities — all without collecting personal data.
The fixture was designed with a discreet and minimal aesthetic, making it suitable for public environments. It houses advanced technology in a way that blends into the surroundings while supporting safety and privacy.
Type: Concept collaboration with Fagerhult
Year: 2023
Project Duration: 3 months
Category: Lighting, public safety, sustainable innovation
Role: Research, Technology Exploration, Concept Development, CAD, Visualization, Presentation
Designed by: Mohammed Haji Younes and Darya Mahmoudi
